Lesson
In your planner, copy down the list of needs for Science off the whiteboard in the lab-Notebook, 2 rolls Scotch tape, colored pencils, earbuds, Shoe box and round batteries last month of school. Write the procedure for a Fire drill, Tornado Drill while you are in the science room in your planner as well.

As you wait for class to begin, locate all student tools (Pencil sharpener etc.) in the science room and be able to tell me what respect looks like in this class and silently read the next two weeks of learning targets and the "Safety Contract".

Yesterday I asked you about what you want to do in life as a job, what do you need to get there? How many hours, pay?

In your planner, write the procedure for a Fire drill, Tornado Drill in the science room
Review what respect in the job place should look like. Review the locations of student tools in the classroom.

As you wait for class to begin, at your lab desk, silently read the next two weeks of learning targets and complete the "Safety Contract" and copy into your planner the material off the whiteboard in the lab to prepare for next week's lab.

We will start by the day watching- You can learn anything, then we will wrap up the "Safety Contract" and learn how to use the lab equipment and the use (I hope) of the following:

Log on to your computer, then move to the granite lab desks. We will start the day with lifted the we wrap up of the safety contract (Please finish this at your lab desk, as you wait for class to start.) Then we will talk about rocket supplies and how to launch rockets.
(5th hour will light the burners that they did not do yesterday.) (EVERYONE!)

Objective- Newton's Laws. Test (launch) Wednesday

You need your bottles, tape, and notebook and at your lab desk, write at the top of the next unused page in your notebook- "Rocket Lab" and the following objective under the title:
"Design a rocket that will stay aloft for 10 seconds and return an egg unharmed after a collision with the earth's surface."

Then write your step by step procedure below the title and make a cross section drawing of your rocket, your rocket's flight path, and how your design will absorb the force of the impact.
Work in groups of 4.

History of the World in 2 hours.

Today and Friday we will watch and take notes on the History of the World in 2 hours. If you are going to DC watch this movie before Monday) You may use all of the notes on the quiz on Monday. (The movie sums up over 90% of what you will learn this year in less than two hours, so the movie is kind of important :) Whenever you see a blue and white date on the screen, write down the important fact that follows in your notebook. You will use it to answer the quiz Monday. You will also use the movie guide to answer the "small test in the third marking period". (The movie says the universe is 13.7 billion years old, it is not. It is 13.82 billion years old.)

Today: We will watch Bill Nye Motion. In your notebook, record three applications of each of Newton's three laws of motion from the video.


In your journal label a page Newton's Catapult and make a sketch of your prototype catapult. You will work in groups of two at your table.


Determine the average mass of a Kraft stick, glue stick, three small one large rubber bands, one large, one projectile and the green and white cap options, record your data in your journal.


Your mission: Construct the lightest possible catapult made from just the given materials to hit a 30 x 30 x 30 cm target with greater than 50% accuracy from a position on your lab desk. Your unsecured catapult MUST have a total mass less than 80 grams, including the projectile. Your cap, and rubber bands may NOT be glued to your catapult directly. (Tape interface works)
