Periodic Table Game Lab
Wednesday11/16/1Learning Target-Patterns in
the Periodic Table MS-LS 2-3.

Be good for the "Sub" he is kind of old!
Step 1- Have your Black Disk Lab from yesterday out
and open to Page 4 to correct.
At your lab desk, read the hot orange direction sheet
in the lab basket that says: "Read This Sheet First"Mendeleev will tell us about his life
to start the hour.
Step 2- Solve and explain your puzzle's patterns to each person in your group.
Step 3- When all members of your group can explain ALL four
patterns, call me over so I can quiz ALL of you.

Graduate of the Periodic thinking shows up! (You are FAR more intelligent!)
Step 1- Construct a color puzzle that you did NOT solve yesterday.
Step 2- Explain your puzzle to each person in your group.
Step 3- When all members of your group can explain ALL patterns, call me over so I can quiz ALL of you.
Step 4- Use all 4 mini puzzles to construct the BIG block table. Have ALL members explain ALL the patterns.
Step 5- Identify all patterns on each color card going across and down your block table.
Step 6- Identify patterns in all cards (i.e. - How are green cards related to blue, to purple, etc. the more

Step 7 -Identify what each "?" card should have written on it.
Step 8- Add the neon elements to your block table. When correct, see me.
Step 9- Identify each atom hanging from the ceiling.
Step 10- Read and complete theDesigner DNA.
Step 11- You need your Notebook, Colored Pencils, and Scotch tape for the Atoms makeMoleculesLife notes Monday.

Monday 11/21/16 Learning Target- Patterns in the Periodic Table MS-LS 2-3.

Step 1- You need your headphones. Log on to you computer, in your notebook label a new page "Molecules of life" I will start the hour by checking on what you have learned about the Periodic Table. We will wrap up the CHNOPS notes from last Friday at the lab tables.

Step 2- Make a molecular sketch of each the four major groups of bio-molecules. (Water as a bio-molecule is implied) We will watch two clips from the Amoeba sisters, Water and Biomolecules

Step 3- Watch in full screen "The Building Blocks of the Universe" (Find the file in LanSchool). Take notes on Bio-molecules found in the PPT.

Step 4- As you wait for computer to start, read and complete the Designer DNA and

identify each atom hanging from the ceiling.

The Periodic Table & Bonding
Students look more deeply into the structure of the atom and play a game to better understand the relationship between protons, neutrons, electrons, and energy levels in atoms and their location in the periodic table. Students will also explore covalent and ionic bonding.
  1. Protons, Neutrons, and Electrons
  2. The Periodic Table
  3. The Periodic Table & Energy Level Models
  4. Energy Levels, Electrons, and Covalent Bonding
  5. Energy Levels, Electrons, and Ionic Bonding
  6. Represent Bonding with Lewis Dot Diagrams

As your computer loads silently read your "Genes through geological time periods, then use Google to research the following terms and be able to tell me how each would solve the fossil fuel issue:

In your notebook, draw at least 1/2 page carbon cycle in color,
include in your drawing on land plants=coal formation, in the
ocean include phytoplankton,=oil, limestone,
mantle convection, plate tectonics, volcano off-gassing. Include the evidence for change over time, and be able to rank them in importance. Geologic evidence of fossils,

I urge people to sign a petition demanding strict control or total elimination of the chemical "dihydrogen monoxide."
And for plenty of good reasons, since:
it can cause excessive sweating and vomiting
it is a major component in acid rain
it can cause severe burns in its gaseous state
accidental inhalation can kill you
it contributes to erosion
it decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes
it has been found in tumors of terminal cancer patients
